Tokenized RWA Assets Surpass $31 Billion

Tokenized RWA active AUM exceeds $31 billion as derivatives open interest approaches $19 billion and Treasury products reach $14.5 billion.

Newsroom portrait of a financial analyst at a desk, tablet shows rising RWA AUM chart with tokenized asset icons.

The tokenized real-world asset market has surpassed $31 billion in active assets under management, reflecting continued expansion across blockchain-based securities, commodities and other financial instruments. At the same time, derivatives linked to traditional assets have developed into a substantial market of their own, with open interest approaching $19 billion.

According to DeFiLlama’s RWA dashboard, active RWA AUM stood at approximately $31.5 billion on October 21, 2026, while total on-chain AUM was about $34.7 billion. The distinction matters because not every asset represented onchain qualifies as active AUM under the platform’s methodology.

The dashboard also recorded approximately $4.26 billion in DeFi active TVL, meaning only about 13.5% of active RWA value was deployed into tracked decentralized finance applications. This separates asset issuance and representation from actual use in lending, liquidity provision and other DeFi markets.

RWA Derivatives Open Interest Approaches $19 Billion

Activity has expanded simultaneously in perpetual futures referencing traditional financial assets, with RWA perpetual open interest reaching approximately $18.8 billion to $18.9 billion during the October 21 snapshot. Decentralized exchanges accounted for roughly 30% of those outstanding positions.

Rolling 24-hour trading volume was running above $43 billion, showing that derivatives activity now exceeds the underlying tokenized asset market on several trading metrics. The figures capture contracts referencing equities, commodities and other conventional assets rather than ownership of those assets themselves.

That distinction is critical because perpetual open interest cannot be added to tokenized RWA AUM. Derivative positions provide price exposure and may employ leverage without requiring equivalent securities or commodities to be issued as blockchain tokens.

The growth comes as tokenized equities and ETFs continue expanding across crypto infrastructure. Ondo, for example, recently reported more than $1.3 billion across its tokenized stock and ETF offering as part of a broader expansion of its tokenized securities business, although tokenized securities and perpetual derivatives represent fundamentally different forms of market exposure.

Tokenized Treasuries Remain a Major Institutional Segment

U.S. government debt remains one of the largest institutional RWA categories, with RWA.xyz’s Treasury dashboard showing approximately $14.5 billion in distributed tokenized Treasury value as of October 21. The category includes Treasury bills, notes, bonds and Treasury-focused money market products.

Within that segment, Ondo ranked first with approximately $3 billion in tracked Treasury value, followed by Franklin Templeton’s Benji Investments at $2.5 billion, Circle at $2.4 billion and Securitize at $2.3 billion. These figures apply specifically to Treasury-related products distributed through each platform, not the companies’ total assets or valuations.

Institutional infrastructure around these products is also developing, with Ondo connecting its regulated securities operations to DTCC’s Fund/SERV network. That connection improves distribution infrastructure but does not itself demonstrate investor demand or deployed capital, making the distinction between market access and adoption important.

Other developments are pushing tokenized government securities deeper into existing capital-market workflows. A recent Tradeweb transaction on Canton Network paired a tokenized Treasury security with tokenized cash, showing how RWA infrastructure can combine execution, price discovery and synchronized on-chain settlement.

The broader market nevertheless remains unevenly integrated with DeFi, as roughly $4.26 billion in active DeFi TVL remains far below the sector’s $31.5 billion active AUM. Morpho Blue led tracked RWA-related DeFi deployment at roughly $751 million, followed by protocols including Kamino, Aave and Grove Finance.

The current data therefore reflects two parallel markets: growing issuance of blockchain-based representations of traditional assets and increasingly liquid crypto-native derivatives referencing those same markets. Tokenization has reached meaningful scale, but issuance, DeFi utilization and speculative trading remain distinct measures of adoption.
