NEAR Protocol has made confidential execution broadly available through NEAR Intents, extending privacy-focused routing to developers building cross-chain swaps and asset-transfer services. The system is designed to reduce the public visibility of transaction details before settlement, giving users and autonomous software agents an alternative to exposing every step of their activity on transparent blockchain networks.
Developers can activate the feature through the existing NEAR Intents 1Click Swap API rather than rebuilding their applications around a separate privacy system. A standard cross-chain quote request becomes confidential by adding a single confidentiality parameter, with “basic” and “advanced” settings available for supported flows. The remaining request and response process stays aligned with a conventional swap integration.
Privacy Added to the Existing Swap Workflow
NEAR Intents normally allows a user or AI agent to specify a desired outcome while competing market makers, also known as solvers, determine how to fulfill it. Once the user accepts a quote, a verifier smart contract on NEAR checks and settles the transaction. Confidential execution adds a restricted-visibility layer to this existing coordination model instead of replacing the underlying intent-based process.
The privacy architecture routes protected activity through a dedicated NEAR shard before final settlement. NEAR has positioned this design as a way to avoid requiring users to generate complex cryptographic proofs on their own devices or move assets onto an entirely separate privacy blockchain. Keeping execution details away from public transaction channels can reduce the exposure of trade sizes, routes and timing, information that automated bots may otherwise use to copy strategies or attempt front-running.
Confidential routing is also reaching consumer-facing products. NEAR Intents announced on July 24 that Meteor Wallet had activated confidential cross-chain swaps alongside private sending and receiving functions. The near.com interface separately offers a confidential mode for eligible swaps. These deployments move the technology beyond developer documentation and into live wallet and trading environments, although availability may still depend on the assets and routing paths involved.
The integration is particularly relevant to automated agents that may execute transactions without continuous human supervision. Publicly broadcasting an agent’s intended trade can reveal portfolio adjustments or execution strategies before completion. NEAR is positioning confidential execution as operational infrastructure for machine-directed financial activity, where speed and limited information leakage may be required at the same time. NEAR’s technical documentation already defines Intents as a system through which either a person or an AI agent can submit a desired outcome.
Adoption Is Growing, but Private Volume Remains Hard to Isolate
NEAR previously highlighted a cumulative Intents volume milestone above $19 billion, but more recent independent tracking places activity higher. DefiLlama currently records approximately $24.1 billion in cumulative NEAR Intents DEX volume, including about $2.16 billion processed over the latest 30-day period. Those figures confirm substantial use of the broader swap infrastructure, but they do not separately identify how much activity used confidential routing.
Nansen’s NEAR Protocol review offers an additional view of early privacy adoption. The blockchain analytics firm reported that NEAR Intents had facilitated more than $22 billion in cumulative cross-chain swap volume by the end of the second quarter, while confidential Intents held more than $30 million and represented 42% of swap volume on near.com. Those figures indicate meaningful usage within NEAR’s own interface, but they should not be treated as evidence that the same adoption rate extends across external wallets and exchanges.
Broader uptake will depend on the number of distribution channels that enable the feature. NEAR Intents relies on wallets, applications and exchanges to present its swaps to users, meaning confidential execution does not automatically appear across every integrated platform. The low-friction API change may simplify deployment, but each third-party operator still controls whether private routing becomes available to its customers.
Confidential execution should also be distinguished from guaranteed anonymity. Near.com’s terms state that its confidential mode is intended to reduce public visibility but does not promise that activity will be anonymous, untraceable or hidden from every party. Transaction information may still be accessible to infrastructure providers, counterparties, regulators or other entities under certain circumstances. The feature therefore provides transaction confidentiality rather than an absolute shield against identification or disclosure.
NEAR’s update lowers the implementation barrier for developers seeking more private cross-chain execution without introducing an entirely separate integration stack. Its long-term impact will depend on wallet adoption, supported routes and transparent reporting of confidential activity, not simply the total volume already passing through NEAR Intents. The infrastructure is operational, but its reach beyond NEAR-controlled interfaces remains the key metric to watch.
