Sharplink and Galaxy Digital have officially launched the Galaxy Sharplink Onchain Yield Fund, a $125 million investment vehicle designed to deploy institutional capital across decentralized finance and other onchain yield opportunities. The fund extends Sharplink’s Ethereum treasury strategy beyond staking by introducing actively managed blockchain investments under Galaxy’s oversight. The vehicle began operating on August 7 after the companies first outlined the planned partnership in May.
The fund launches with $100 million backed by Sharplink’s staked ETH treasury and a separate $25 million commitment from Galaxy. Galaxy serves as investment manager and says its allocation process combines proprietary research, protocol diligence and risk controls developed through years of institutional digital-asset investing. The structure places a portion of Sharplink’s treasury capital into strategies carrying additional return potential as well as additional DeFi, liquidity and smart-contract risk.
Sharplink Moves Beyond Native ETH Staking
Sharplink has built its current corporate strategy around making its ETH holdings productive rather than simply retaining them on its balance sheet. The company already earns protocol rewards through native staking, liquid staking and restaking, while its SEC filings also disclose deployments through decentralized finance protocols. The Galaxy fund creates another dedicated channel for seeking returns from Sharplink’s Ethereum treasury without replacing its existing staking operations.
Sharplink CEO Joseph Chalom characterized the fund as an expansion of that treasury-management model, while Galaxy Global Co-Head of Digital Assets Steve Kurz said the launch adds a scaled institutional onchain strategy to Galaxy’s asset-management platform. The fund is expected to target selected protocols and projects where deployed capital can generate yield while also supplying liquidity. Those objectives remain investment targets rather than guaranteed returns, and Sharplink has previously warned investors that onchain strategies can produce losses.
That risk distinction is particularly important in DeFi. Sharplink’s regulatory disclosures identify smart-contract vulnerabilities, protocol failures, liquidity risk, impermanent loss, governance uncertainty and potential total loss of capital among the risks associated with the fund. Institutional management does not remove the underlying technical and market risks created when treasury assets are deployed into blockchain protocols.
Fund Marks a New Phase in Sharplink’s Treasury Strategy
The launch also represents a significant evolution for Sharplink itself. Although the company was founded before its Ethereum pivot and continues to operate an affiliate-marketing business, its SEC filings state that ETH Treasury Management is now its predominant operational focus. Sharplink formally launched its ETH-centered treasury strategy in June 2025, rather than beginning life as an Ethereum treasury company in 2019.
For Galaxy, the vehicle adds another institutional strategy built around activity occurring directly on blockchain infrastructure. For Sharplink, it creates a mechanism for putting part of its substantial staked ETH position into more active strategies managed externally. The practical test will be whether the additional yield can justify the added layers of protocol, liquidity and operational risk, particularly during periods of market stress when DeFi positions can behave differently from conventional staking.
The $125 million launch therefore represents more than another ETH allocation, but it should not be treated as evidence that active onchain treasury management is inherently superior to passive holdings or staking. Sharplink is deliberately widening the range of risks and potential returns its Ethereum treasury can access, making fund performance and risk management the next measurable indicators of whether the strategy delivers on its stated objectives.
