CSD BR Puts BTG Fund Records on XRP Ledger

Brazil’s CSD BR begins recording BTG Pactual fund data on the XRP Ledger, bringing live institutional ownership records to XRPL.

Brazilian financial-market infrastructure provider CSD BR has begun using the XRP Ledger to mirror records for investment fund shares managed by BTG Pactual, moving a regulated tokenization project into live operation. The deployment adds a public blockchain as a complementary record and audit layer while leaving CSD BR’s existing systems as the official source of record. CSD BR currently holds more than BRL 22 trillion in registered assets across its broader infrastructure.

According to Ripple’s official announcement, the first phase covers BTG Pactual investment fund shares deposited at CSD BR and operates with live transactions rather than test assets. The blockchain copy does not replace registration, deposit or settlement processes but allows authorized institutions to check the consistency of records in near real time. The model was implemented within Brazil’s existing regulatory framework without requiring new regulatory approvals or changing participants’ legal responsibilities.

XRP Ledger Adds a Parallel Institutional Record

The project uses the XRP Ledger’s Multi-Purpose Token standard to represent the fund shares on-chain. CSD BR retains control over issuance and administration, while access is restricted to Brazilian corporate and banking participants subject to KYC and anti-money-laundering requirements. The MPT architecture allows the institutional representation to preserve controls that would be difficult to reconcile with unrestricted bearer-style tokens, including holder authorization, individual asset freezes and clawbacks when required by regulatory or judicial orders.

Those features matter because tokenizing a security does not eliminate the legal and operational controls attached to the underlying instrument. The same distinction is appearing elsewhere as regulators clarify how tokenized funds and blockchain-based regulatory records can operate within existing financial rules. In CSD BR’s implementation, the on-chain representation remains subordinate to the regulated market infrastructure rather than independently establishing ownership rights.

CSD BR itself is authorized by Brazil’s Central Bank and CVM to perform regulated market-infrastructure functions, including registration and central depository services. That makes the deployment materially different from a standalone issuer placing a fund token on a public blockchain, because the blockchain layer is being connected directly to an incumbent securities-record system. Comparable institutional projects are increasingly focused on linking DLT with established post-trade infrastructure, including DTCC’s move toward live multi-blockchain tokenization workflows.

Native Issuance Remains a Future Phase

The current architecture should not be confused with native on-chain issuance or blockchain-based settlement. CSD BR describes record mirroring as the first and more conservative stage of the partnership. Only after that phase is validated do the partners plan to explore issuing assets directly on XRPL and enabling trading among authorized participants.

The next assets under consideration are Real Estate Receivables Certificates, known as CRIs, and Agribusiness Receivables Certificates, or CRAs. The partners also plan to examine confidentiality mechanisms required by financial institutions. Those are prospective phases rather than capabilities already operating today, mirroring the broader institutional trend of progressively connecting tokenized assets with existing custody and settlement systems. Clearstream, for example, is similarly developing connections between tokenized securities and conventional institutional infrastructure rather than moving its entire custody base onto blockchain.

The project therefore represents a live deployment but not a wholesale migration of CSD BR’s BRL 22 trillion platform onto XRPL. Its significance lies in a regulated central securities infrastructure using a public blockchain to mirror real fund records while retaining the conventional authoritative ledger. The next concrete milestone will be validation of that live mirroring phase and any subsequent move toward native issuance or trading of CRI, CRA or other eligible assets on the XRP Ledger.
