Cardano Adds Five Core Tools to Developer Directory

Cardano adds cardano-api, RPC, WASM, Sieve and Testnet to its Builder Tools directory, expanding access to node, indexing and testing infrastructure.

Cardano has expanded its official Builder Tools directory with five Intersect-maintained components covering transaction construction, node access, indexing, browser development and local testing. The newly listed tools are cardano-api, cardano-rpc, cardano-wasm, cardano-sieve and cardano-testnet, giving developers clearer access to infrastructure already used across different parts of the Cardano software stack.

The official Cardano Builder Tools directory now lists all five among its most recent additions. Their inclusion represents a documentation and discoverability upgrade rather than the simultaneous launch of five new software packages, with several of the components already established inside Cardano’s core repositories and development workflows.

That distinction matters because the directory is intended to organize an increasingly fragmented development stack by function. The five additions collectively cover direct node interaction, transaction tooling, chain indexing and reproducible development environments, reducing the need for builders to discover those capabilities separately across repositories and technical documentation.

cardano-rpc Brings gRPC Access Closer to the Node

Among the additions, cardano-rpc provides one of the more direct infrastructure changes for application developers. The gRPC service implements the UTxO RPC specification and can query UTxOs and protocol parameters, evaluate and submit transactions, and stream changes from the chain tip, providing a standardized interface for software communicating with Cardano nodes.

That creates an alternative to application architectures that depend entirely on externally hosted blockchain APIs. Direct RPC access can reduce reliance on proprietary middleware for basic node queries and transaction submission, although production applications may still use specialized indexers and infrastructure providers for richer historical data or higher-level services.

cardano-api sits underneath much of that developer stack. The Haskell library provides primitives for constructing, signing and submitting transactions, managing addresses and keys, and querying Cardano nodes, and it also serves as the library underlying cardano-cli.

The same repository now contains cardano-wasm, which exposes a subset of cardano-api through WebAssembly. Its JavaScript and TypeScript interfaces support browser and Node.js environments for operations including key management, address handling, fee estimation, transaction building and signing, extending core Cardano functionality beyond native Haskell applications.

Indexing and Local Testing Expand the Toolset

cardano-sieve addresses a different problem: selective blockchain indexing. The tool follows a local Cardano node and records only UTxOs matching configured patterns, storing their creation and spending history in SQLite and exposing the indexed results through a REST interface.

That narrower indexing model can be useful when applications need a defined subset of chain state without maintaining a full general-purpose index. Purpose-built data infrastructure complements Cardano’s expanding smart-contract capabilities, including the native zero-knowledge proof primitives available through Plutus V3, where applications may require specialized off-chain services around on-chain validation.

cardano-testnet completes the group by targeting development and integration testing. It can create configurable local multi-node Cardano clusters with selectable genesis settings, eras and topology, and is available both as a command-line utility and a Haskell library for Hedgehog-based integration tests.

The additions arrive as Cardano continues developing a broader infrastructure roadmap that includes scalability and cryptographic changes outlined in Cardano Vision 2026. Adding tools to the official directory does not itself demonstrate increased developer adoption, but it makes maintained infrastructure easier to identify and integrate.

The practical change is therefore organizational as much as technical. Cardano’s developer portal is consolidating several core Intersect-maintained capabilities into a more visible tool catalog, giving builders clearer paths from local testing and transaction construction to direct node access and production data services.
