Ethena USDe Holds Near $4.8B as ENA Transfers Accelerate
Ethena’s USDe supply approaches $4.8B as large ENA transfers, token unlocks and revised vesting schedules draw market attention.

Ethena’s USDe supply is holding near $4.8 billion after recovering from a July contraction, while large ENA transfers are drawing attention following changes to the token’s investor vesting schedule. The latest data show a recovery in USDe issuance, but supply has already pulled back from the $5 billion peak reached in late September. That distinction matters as Ethena’s approved ENA buyback mechanism remains tied directly to future USDe growth.
According to Ethena’s latest official governance update, USDe declined from $4.51 billion on July 1 to $3.90 billion at the end of July, before rising to $4.18 billion in August and $4.94 billion at the end of September. It briefly reached $5.00 billion on September 27. As of October 12, Ethena reported $4.76 billion in USDe supply backed by approximately $4.83 billion in assets, for a 101.43% backing ratio.
USDe Growth Still Falls Short of ENA Buyback Trigger
The recovery has brought USDe substantially above its summer low, but it has not activated the protocol’s new fee switch. Governance approved a tiered framework under which 5% of gross protocol revenue is captured once the 14-day average USDe supply reaches $7.5 billion, rising to 10% at $10 billion, 15% at $15 billion and 20% at $20 billion. Ethena says 95% of the resulting net revenue received by the Foundation would be directed toward ENA buybacks.
The distinction between approval and activation remains important. USDe was already approaching $4.9 billion during its September recovery, while Ethena separately removed protocol-level USDe mint fees for USDT to reduce primary-market friction for approved participants. Neither development by itself activates ENA purchases, because the $7.5 billion condition is based on sustained circulating supply rather than a single-day mint or temporary supply spike.
Protocol economics also require careful separation between fees and revenue. DefiLlama currently records approximately $1.061 billion in cumulative fees, but cumulative protocol revenue is closer to $333 million. Over the latest 30-day snapshot, USDe generated about $17.9 million in fees while DefiLlama attributed roughly $49,000 to protocol revenue under its methodology. The $1.061 billion figure therefore should not be described as revenue retained by Ethena.
ENA Unlock Changes Coincide With Large Exchange Transfer
ENA’s supply schedule has also undergone a substantial restructuring. Ethena said in August that it had bought out locked tokens from certain seed investors and accelerated the release of remaining investor allocations to remove the recurring monthly unlock overhang. Independent calculations placed the remaining investor release on October 5 at roughly 1.41 billion ENA, although Ethena itself did not publish that exact quantity as the official size of the release. Team and Foundation allocations remain subject to separate vesting schedules.
On-chain monitoring has since identified a large exchange transfer. EyeOnChain reported that address 0x93c…3C6B9 deposited 11.64 million ENA, worth approximately $2.85 million at the time, into Bybit after receiving the tokens from an address labeled as an Ethena Proxy. The transaction confirms an exchange deposit, but it does not establish that the tokens were sold or identify the economic purpose behind the transfer. The tracker described it as the address’s largest ENA deposit to Bybit in nearly a year.
StablecoinX represents a separate concentration of ENA supply. The publicly traded company disclosed approximately 3.029 billion ENA at the closing of its business combination in June, equal to about 20% of ENA’s 15 billion total supply. That treasury position should not be conflated with the estimated October investor unlock or treated as 3 billion tokens newly entering circulating markets. StablecoinX has described the holdings as part of a multi-year treasury strategy tied to Ethena infrastructure.
Ethena is simultaneously expanding distribution beyond USDe itself. Its Whitelabel platform says ether.fi plans to use Ethena infrastructure for an ether.fi-branded stablecoin aimed at more than $300 million of existing stablecoin balances, while USDe and sUSDe have also expanded onto TRON through Stargate. Those distribution channels may broaden Ethena’s addressable stablecoin footprint, but the $300 million on ether.fi is existing platform liquidity, not $300 million already converted into USDe or a new Ethena-backed token.
For now, Ethena’s two most relevant metrics are moving on different timelines. USDe has recovered substantially from its July low but remains well below the $7.5 billion buyback threshold, while ENA is absorbing a major restructuring of investor vesting and several visible on-chain transfers. That leaves actual supply growth, rather than isolated exchange deposits or token unlock headlines, as the condition that determines when the approved fee-switch mechanism begins purchasing ENA.
